Man arrested on gun charges in Springfield school parking lot

Beacon Journal staff report

SPRINGFIELD TWP:. A domestic argument in the parking lot of Young Elementary School ended with the arrest of a 48-year-old man on gun possession charges.

Craig Alan Jenkins of Mogadore was charged with illegal conveyance of a weapon on school grounds, a felony of the fifth degree. Police said the incident was related to “a child custody issue and took place while the child was being dropped off at the school” at 8:40 a.m. Thursday.

Police found that Jenkins had two loaded handguns in his car.

The police news release said “there is currently no evidence to support that the weapons were ever brought into the school building or that there were any threats made involving the weapons.”

Jenkins was taken to the Summit County Jail.
