Man attacks woman, steals purse from another

Beacon Journal staff report

Akron police are looking for a man who assaulted and robbed an Akron woman of her keys and later snatched the purse of a second.

The first woman, 54, was treated for a broken collarbone and minor injuries to her face and knees, police said. Her attacker has not been identified.

The woman told police she was walking out the Circle K store in the 900 block of East Exchange Street about 1 p.m. when she noticed the man sitting inside her car. As she approached, the man got out and attacked her.

Police say the woman was punched in the face several times while the man tried to take her purse. After the attack, the man fled with her key chain.

About two hours later, police say the same man approached a 38-year-old woman waiting for a bus at Upson and Stone streets and asked her the time. As she looked at her cellphone, the man grabbed her purse and ran.

Police say the robber is a black male, 17 to 20 years old, with a slender build. He wore a black knit hat and a waist-length dark-colored coat with “Carolina” in white or light blue letters written across the back, and an emblem on the left chest.
