GRANGER TWP.: One man was killed and two others were injured in a crash early Thursday that closed a section of state Route 18 in Granger Township.
Chad Nelson, 29, of Columbus, died shortly after the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A vehicle driven by Gilberto Ralios, 20, crossed the center line of Route 18 and crashed head-on into another vehicle about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to troopers with the Medina post of the State Highway Patrol.
Ralios was alone in the vehicle. Nelson was a passenger in a 1996 Chrysler LHS being driven by Eric Kaskevic, 34, of Strongsville.
As flames engulfed Ralios’ Ford Fusion, he was freed by two people who stopped at the crash scene. Kaskevic was listed in fair condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Ralios was being treated at Akron General Medical Center. His condition was not available.
Two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene of the crash near state Route 94 and Beach Street, she said. Nelson died later at Akron General Medical Center.
Alcohol use appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, troopers said.
