Police arrested two men accused of robbing a man near the University of Akron and then leading police on a high-speed chase before crashing.
Dierre Thomas Payne, 18, of Akron, and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested after the incident Wednesday night.
UA and city police say the two robbed a 27-year-old man of a cell phone, wallet, $4 in cash and a cigar while the man was walking at the intersection of Rankin Street and Brown Street.
Afterward, the robbers got inside a stolen 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and eventually led UA and city police on a high speed chase that last only minutes before the teen jumped out and Payne crashed into a house on Fern Street. Both suspects were arrested and running from officers.
Payne is charged with robbery, receiving stolen property and failure to comply with police orders. The teen is facing delinquency robbery charges.
