Marlington school district reunited with $51,000 account

Associated Press

ALLIANCE: A school district in Stark County has received a check of about $51,000 from a state fund that holds onto unclaimed monies until rightful owners can be found.

The check was presented Monday to the Marlington Local School District in Alliance by the Ohio Department of Commerce.

The department’s unclaimed funds division reunites people and organizations with money they might not know about or have forgotten. Some examples are dormant saving accounts, credit balances, cashier’s checks and refunds from utility and insurance companies.

The state says the Marlington money became dormant when a paperwork error at a bank attached the wrong address to a district account.

Treasurer Sandy Moeglin of the 2,550-student district says the money will go into a fund to help offset the cost of future building repairs.
