MASSILLON: A Wooster man is dead following a two-vehicle crash Sunday night that involved a hit-skip driver.
Michael D. Braatz, 70, of Portage Grove Court, was operating a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on state Route 241 heading east toward Erie Street at 6:42 p.m., when he was struck by a person driving a minivan, the Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol said Monday.
According to witnesses, the driver of the green and tan vehicle that hit Braatz was driving erratically as it traveled on Route 241 and turned right. The minivan struck Braatz as he was attempting to turn north onto Erie Street.
Witnesses said the driver, described as a white, middle-age man, continued driving west after striking the motorcycle.
Braatz, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was taken to Affinity Hosptial in Massillon, where he was pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m.
Patrol troopers are looking for a late 1980s to early 1990s two-tone Chevrolet or Plymouth minivan painted green on the top and tan on the bottom. There were two occupants in the vehicle, the patrol said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call 330-433-6200.
