KNOXVILLE: Another company has sued Pilot Flying J, which is run by Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, as the federal probe into claims of fuel rebate fraud continues.
The latest lawsuit, filed by trucking customer Mike Campbell of Holmes County, Miss., seeks class-action status — as do other lawsuits filed in federal court in Illinois and in Arkansas, along with two in Alabama and another in Mississippi. A Georgia company, joined by three others, has sued in Knox County Circuit Court in another proposed class-action case. A company in Butler County, Ala., has sued in state court there.
FBI and IRS agents raided Pilot’s corporate headquarters off Lonas Drive in West Knoxville in April while serving search warrants for company records. The warrants detail an elaborate plan to cheat trucking customers on diesel discounts and rebates over a period of at least five years. Pilot sales executives called the scheme “jacking the discount,” according to court records.
