CLEVELAND: An American Red Cross group in northeast Ohio says it has a decent inventory of blood to continue operations despite the cancellation of the largest blood drive in its 19-county region.
The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports the group expected to see 780 donors and collect about 1,000 pints of blood Tuesday in Mayfield Heights. The event was canceled after a union said blood-collection workers would strike over a contract dispute.
A spokeswoman for the Red Cross chapter says it hopes to reschedule the blood drive. People who were slated to donate Tuesday were redirected to other sites.
The spokeswoman says the region’s inventory has been OK recently, partly because the winter weather has been milder and less likely to discourage residents from showing up to donate blood.
