Northfield day-care owner reported to work drunk, deputies say

Beacon Journal staff report

The owner of a Northfield day-care center is facing 24 counts of child endangering after Summit County sheriff’s deputies say she showed up to work drunk earlier this week.

Dana Gruszka, 44, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges during an appearance Wednesday in Stow Municipal Court. She was freed on $5,000 bond and ordered not to have any contact with children.

Gruszka is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Jan. 24 before Judge Lisa Coates.

She was arrested Monday at First Class Preschool and Child Care Center, 9305 Olde Eight Road, after a parent contacted deputies and said Gruszka appeared intoxicated.

Deputies say they could smell alcohol on Gruszka’s breath and her speech was slurred. She refused to take a sobriety test, according to reports.

She was arrested and charged with one count of endangering for each child present at the center.
