COLUMBUS: An investigation conducted by Ohio’s government watchdog has found an employee of the state’s department of transportation ran a personal business as a notary public while she was on the clock at the agency.
The report from the Ohio Inspector General announced on Tuesday shows the employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation used the state’s equipment including an assigned desktop, printer, copier and telephone for her personal benefit.
The inspector general’s office began the investigation in April after receiving a complaint that detailed the allegations.
Investigators analyzed the employee’s computer’s hard drive and found the she had logged into notary websites related to her business from a state computer on nearly 50 times between March and April 2013.
A transportation department spokesman says the employee was terminated July 12.
