Ohio AG fights subpoenas for himself, Boehner

CLEVELAND: The Ohio attorney general is fighting subpoenas seeking trial testimony from himself, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner and other politicians in a $100 million multi-state fraud trial in Cleveland.

The defense for Bobby Thompson obtained the subpoenas to show that Thompson’s Republican-leaning political donations were legal. Thompson also has been identified as John Donald Cody.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine filed a motion Wednesday to quash the subpoenas, saying there’s no indication that the individuals have relevant evidence that can help the defendant.

Thompson is scheduled to go on trial Monday on charges of defrauding people who donated to a reputed charity for Navy veterans. He has showered politicians, often Republicans, with political donations.

The speaker’s office had no immediate comment.
