Ohio college student jailed for alleged gun threat

XENIA, OHIO: An Ohio college student has been arrested after allegedly telling campus employees he wouldn’t be afraid to carry out a mass shooting along the lines of the 2007 Virginia Tech killings.

A jury trial has been scheduled next month for 27-year-old Charles McCornell, a Central State University student charged with inducing panic and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

The Dayton Daily News reported Thursday that McCornell remained in Greene County Jail on $10,000 bond following his arraignment Wednesday.

The paper quotes an incident report from the university’s Department of Public Safety that says McCornell had become frustrated while trying to schedule a meeting with professors to discuss a disputed grade.

The report says McCornell threatened to “pull a Virginia Tech.”

McCornell’s attorney did not immediately return a call Thursday.
