Ohio police say driver targeted deputies, hit bystander

Associated Press

COLUMBUS: Police say a fleeing driver tried to run down two central Ohio sheriff’s deputies and struck a third person but was quickly taken into custody.

WCMH-TV in Columbus reports the Franklin County deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person outside a bar and saw a vehicle being vandalized early Wednesday morning. Authorities say the two suspects tried to flee in a pickup truck and struck a bystander in the process.

That person was taken to a hospital. There was no immediate update on the extent of the injuries to the pedestrian or the deputies. WBNS-TV reports the officers were expected to fully recover.

The two suspects were later arrested nearby. There was no immediate word on any charges.
