Ohio redistricting group calls GOP mailer misleading

Associated Press

COLUMBUS: The coalition behind a fall ballot push to change Ohio’s political map-making process has cried foul over an opposition mailer paid for by the Ohio Republican Party.

In a complaint filed with the Ohio Elections Commission on Tuesday, Voters First alleges the GOP flier is misleading and inaccurate in their portrayal of how the proposal would work.

The complaint takes issue with three statements in the mailer. Those include that some members of a citizen commission would be chosen “in secret,” that the commission would be given a “blank check” and that members couldn’t be removed “even if they committed a felony.”

A spokesman for the opposition committee, Protect Your Vote Ohio, said all three items are truthful characterizations of elements of the proposed amendment.
