Ohio teacher who made students stand in rain reprimanded

Associated Press

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO: The superintendent of a south-central Ohio district says an elementary school teacher who made misbehaving students stand in the rain as punishment has been reprimanded.

Chillicothe schools Superintendent Jon Saxton tells WBNS-TV in Columbus that a principal reprimanded the unidentified, first-year music teacher. Saxton says the teacher made a mistake and will be instructed in better techniques to control students’ behavior.

Saxton says the teacher forced about 25 sixth-graders to stand outside a modular classroom building for several minutes on Friday after they entered the class and failed to settle down. He says other teachers saw what was happening and took the children indoors.

The TV station reports some parents are criticizing the teacher’s behavior, while others say it was a mistake and they still support her.
