YOUNGSTOWN: One of two defendants accused of enslaving a mentally disabled woman for two years with her child is denying the allegations at trial in Ohio.

Jessica Hunt testified Wednesday in a Youngstown federal court that the alleged victim was free to go as she pleased and at times left the home for several days.

Hunt and her 27-year-old boyfriend, Jordie Callahan, have pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say the pair looted the accuser’s bank account and public assistance while forcing her and her daughter to live in a locked basement in the northern Ohio town of Ashland.

Hunt told jurors that she tried to help the mentally disabled woman care for her daughter.

Two others charged in the case pleaded guilty and have testified for the prosecution.
