COLUMBUS: A jury is recommending that an Ohio man convicted of killing a pregnant woman spend life in prison without parole instead of receiving the death penalty.
Jurors deliberated for several hours before reaching the recommendation Tuesday for 27-year-old Keywan Tarran Conner. A judge is expected to sentence Conner next month.
Conner’s trial was the first capital punishment case in Franklin County before a jury in nearly three years.
He was convicted of killing Tenishia Latham but was acquitted on a count of attempted murder involving her baby, who survived. Trial testimony included Latham’s husband’s account of surviving after being shot in the head in the February 2011 attack.
Defense attorney Larry Thomas argued no physical evidence tied Conner to the slaying. Thomas did not immediately return a call for comment.
