Ohioan sentenced for shooting cousin, burning body

Associated Press

ZANESVILLE, OHIO: An Ohio man accused of shooting his cousin and setting the body ablaze has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison under a plea deal.

The Zanesville Times Recorder reports 20-year-old Shaquille Davis apologized to his family and the victim’s mother before he was sentenced Monday in a Muskingum County court. Davis was sentenced for the murder as well as tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

An attorney for the Zanesville man declined to comment on the sentencing.

Davis opted for a plea deal last month after the first day of his trial for the July slaying of 24-year-old Phillip Kimbro Jr. Davis initially had represented himself at trial and claimed the shooting was done in self-defense.
