One person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Spring Hill Apartments in Akron.
Officers responding to a reported shooting on the 12th floor around 1:30 p.m. found a 27-year-old man, who had been shot multiple times and another man who had been fatally wounded.
The 27-year-old man was taken to Akron General Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. The extent of his injuries was not yet known. The deceased man had not yet been positively identified. Summit County Medical Examiner’s investigators said his name would be released after his family has been notified.
Akron Police detectives were also attempting to piece together the motive for the homicide and who was responsible.
Part of the police investigation will be reviewing security camera video shot inside the high-rise apartment complex. Detectives said the complex has multiple cameras and its own private security force.
Thursday’s homicide is the city’s fourth slaying of this month and eighth of the year. Detectives have made arrests in six of the first seven homicides.
In 2013, detectives made arrests in 21 of the city’s 22 homicides of the year, a 95 percent clearance rate. Nationally, about 62 percent of all homicides are cleared through arrests.
