Akron detectives were investigating a fatal shooting that occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday near Copley Road and Edgewood Avenue.

A 31-year-old man was pronounced dead after being transported to Akron General Medical Center.

A second victim, a 28-year-old man transported to Akron City Hospital, had injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, police said.

The victims were driving in a maroon, 2000 Oldsmobile Aurora when they were fired upon, police said.

The shots came from an SUV described as full-sized and charcoal gray with a bumper decal showing the image of yellow lips. A partial license plate was also seen containing the numbers of 2129.

A motive for the shooting had not been determined, and the names of the victims were being withheld pending positive identification and family notifications.

Police said the victims’ vehicle appears to have been shot at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Copley Road, then rolled driverless over an embankment, coming to a stop at the Circle K on South Maple Street at Cedar Street.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or recognizing the suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Akron Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490.
