A Barberton man remained hospitalized Tuesday after he was shot in the groin area on Monday, police said.
No charges have been filed and police say the shooting appears to be accidental.
According to a report, the victim, 20, was shot once with a .22-caliber rifle while inside his Stratford Street home Monday afternoon.
A report shows that the victim was with an 18-year-old friend from Norton when the shot was fired. Police say the friend was in control of the rifle when it was discharged, but it appears to have fired accidently.
A 14-year-old boy witnessed the shooting, but was not injured, police said.
After the shooting, the two men drove to the Norton’s man home. Paramedics were then called and the victim was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment.
Details of how the rifle fired were not available. The Norton man declined comment when contacted Tuesday by phone.
