LeBron James tweeted his condolences after a man was killed and a second was injured in a shooting Wednesday night on Akron’s west side.
Police and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Reggie Woodall, 28, of Akron. The name of the injured man has not been released by police.
The shooter also has not been identified.
“Woke up to some awful news. RIP Reg. Gunned down back in the home town. Good dude! SMDH [Shaking my damn head]. You’ll be missed homie,” James sent to followers of his Twitter account.
Police Capt. Daniel Zampelli said officers were called about 11 p.m. to Douglas and Bishop streets amid reports of gunfire. Police found bullet casings at the scene but nothing else.
A short distance away, however, they found two men with gunshot wounds inside a car parked in the driveway of a Bell Street home.
Woodall was shot several times, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:49 p.m.
A 34-year-old passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening, police said.
Detectives believe the shooting took place during a drug sale.
“They were going there to buy drugs and something happened, we know that,” Zampelli said.
Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call police detectives at 330-375-2490.
