Police say same gunman targeted two Akron motorists

Beacon Journal staff report

Akron police believe the same gunman has robbed two motorists in the past two days.

In the first robbery, the robber approached a 62-year-old man in the 100 block of Brittain Road about 8 p.m. Thursday and asked for a ride to the hospital.

As they neared Summa Akron City Hospital, the robber pulled out a gun and took the man’s money and wallet and ran off.

The second mugging took place about 3 a.m. Friday near the intersection of East Market and North Seiberling streets.

A man, 28, said the person approached him in a gas station parking lot and asked for a ride.

When the motorist refused, the gunman pulled out a pistol and ordered the victim into the car. They then drove to North Seiberling and Ruckel Road, where the robber took the man’s money and driver’s license before running off.

Police said the gunman is white, 19 to 25 years old, with brown hair and slight facial hair. He wore a yellow or brown baggy sweatshirt with yellow writing on it, baggy blue jeans and white shoes.
