Portage County burglary suspect being held without bond

Beacon Journal staff writer

SUFFIELD TWP.: A Portage County man was arrested Tuesday on burglary charges after sheriff’s deputies say he forcibly entered a home and to retrieve money.

Authorities said Gary M. Ansell Jr. of Martin Road kicked in the front door at a residence in the 1300 block of atate Route 43 and took money he claimed the residents owed him.

Earlier in the evening, Ansell, who authorities said carried a handgun, got in a dispute with several of the residents of that address at a local bar. The dispute was over money, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. As a result, Ansell went to the residence and made entry by kicking in the door.

He fled the scene before deputies arrived.

No one was injured in the incident, authorities said.

Ansell has been charged with aggravated burglary and is currently being held at the Portage County Jail with no bond. He will be arraigned Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. at the Ravenna Courthouse.
