A large power outage is creating problems in the Montrose area.

FirstEnergy reports that a large section of Bath Township and Fairlawn have been affected including the busy retail corridor along state Route 18.

The outages extend as far west as the Medina County line to the Summit Mall area to the east.

A FirstEnergy spokesperson said a semi-truck hit a telephone pole near I-77 and Ghent Road, and a breaker failed to trip at the electric utility’s substation, resulting in the outage.

Crews are on the scene and power is expected to be restored by 7 p.m.

As many as 7,495 Summit County customers are now in the dark.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Bath Township Police tweeted that the I-77 northbound ramp to Ghent Road is closed “and will be for some time.” Motorists should detour on I-77 southbound to state Route 18, then onto 77 northbound.
