A spokesman for the state Department of Transportation dismissed last week the concerns of county officials in Northeast Ohio about the possible privatizing of the Ohio Turnpike. “A dog-and-pony show” was his description.
Actually, county leaders were doing no more than insisting that John Kasich and his team remain true to their own standard for deciding whether to lease the 241-mile toll road. The governor has emphasized that a deal won’t move forward unless it makes economic sense.
That suggests the practical will prevail over the ideological, that the governor will put a premium on persuasion if it comes to making a case to the many who are understandably skeptical.
