RAVENNA: A newspaper man with many decades in the business is about to celebrate his 95th birthday, and he’s still working.
Pershing “Persh” Rohrer, celebrates his birthday on Monday, still working as a part-time sportswriter for the Record-Courier.
The paper says he writes, edits and collects material for his seasonal bowling and golf page published on Sunday.
Rohrer was hired by the paper in 1952 and retired from full-time work in 1989. He has remained on staff in a correspondence role for the last 24 years.
Veterans Day has special meaning for him. He was born Nov. 11, 1918, the day the armistice was signed to end the fighting in World War I, and was named after Gen. John J. Pershing.
