Shooting near downtown Akron sends man to hospital

AKRON: A man was shot in the arm while in an apartment near Akron General Medical Center early Wednesday morning.

The victim, who police did not identify, was wounded after someone fired shots into his West Cedar Street apartment at about 12:30 a.m., according to Beacon Journal news partner WEWS.

Officers patrolling the area heard the shots shortly before 911 calls were called into the police department.

Witnesses reported hearing six to eight shots.

The victim was transported to Akron General with a gunshot wound to the arm.

A security guard at the apartment told police a sport utility vehicle was seen fleeing the scene, but a description of the vehicle was not released.

Gunshot holes could be seen in the building’s exterior brick and a window was shot out in the apartment.
