Some still without power in Northeast Ohio

Associated Press

CLEVELAND: A utility company reports there are fewer than 1,000 power outages remaining in Northeast Ohio from last week’s storm.

Akron-based FirstEnergy said Monday morning that crews were still working to restore electricity to a little more than 900 homes and businesses still affected. Most are in Cleveland and its near suburbs.

Around 250,000 Ohio electricity customers were left in the dark after high winds from Superstorm Sandy’s outer bands uprooted trees and brought down power lines early last Tuesday.

Cleveland officials have warned residents to watch for downed wires that could be a safety risk. A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition last week after touching a power line brought down by the storm.
