YELLOW SPRINGS, OHIO: State Attorney General Mike DeWine says investigators concluded a SWAT team member shot and killed a western Ohio man who fired at authorities in a standoff at the man’s home.
DeWine says a Greene County grand jury will consider the findings to decide if the evidence shows criminal misconduct or a justifiable shooting.
Authorities were called to 42-year-old Paul Schenck’s home in Yellow Springs over a domestic dispute July 30. Investigators say Schenck fired at least 191 shots out of his home. Some shots hit neighboring houses and law enforcement vehicles.
DeWine’s report says relatives said Schenck had been drinking alcohol before the standoff.
DeWine says family members also told investigators Schenck had a history of mental illness and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 16.
