A Summit County Jail inmate and sheriff’s deputies stopped a man from hanging himself inside his cell Sunday afternoon.
The inmate, a 40-year-old Stow resident, was treated at Akron General Medical Center. He has since been released from custody.
Deputies said they were alerted by another inmate about 5:20 p.m. They found the inmate hanging by a uniform shirt. The shirt was removed and the inmate was lowered to the cell floor. Deputies aided the man until jail medical staff arrived.
The man had been booked June 12 on a charge of receiving stolen property. Jail officials say he displayed no suicidal tendencies.
