MACEDONIA: A long standoff between a homeowner and Summit County sheriff’s deputies ended peacefully Wednesday night.
A deputy attempted to execute a writ of possession at 8321 Shepard Road at 9:55 a.m., but David Smith, 48, closed the door and told a deputy that he had a firearm, authorities said.
Additional sheriff’s units, Macedonia police, Metro SWAT and the Summit County Sheriff’s SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Team responded to the scene and blocked off a portion of Shepard Road between Highland Road and state Route 82.
Negotiators maintained contact with Smith throughout the day. At about 5:30 p.m., he was apprehended without incident and charged with inducing panic, authorities said Thursday.
