Three mugged near UA campus

Two women were struck in the head while being robbed at gunpoint while walking home near the University of Akron early Sunday.

The women, each 21, suffered minor injuries. A male friend, also age 21, was not harmed.

The three were walking home from a bar and were near the 400 block of Allyn Street about 3 a.m. Sunday when three men with handguns approached and demanded money, police said.

The robbers took the women’s purses, cell phones and money before fleeing.

The suspects are described by police as three black males in their early 20s. One wore a red hooded sweatshirt and a baseball hat with a flat brim. The second suspect wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and a baseball hat with a flat brim. The third suspect was wearing a baseball hat with a flat brim.
