AKRON: School officials are “still evaluating costs and necessary repairs” after a vehicle drove into the entrance of Sam Salem Community Learning Center early Tuesday.

“We had a structural engineer inspect the area. We are going to do some shoring around the area that was stuck by the car just to be on the safe side,” said Paul D. Flesher, the Akron school district’s executive director facility planning and capital improvements.

In an email, Flesher said a contractor will assess the damage, which includes masonry and framing around an entrance window.”

It appears the driver ran a stop sign near Weiser Avenue and 26th Street SW before driving onto the school property shortly after 1 a.m.

The driver was treated at Akron General Medical Center for minor injuries. The school day has not been interrupted by the crash.
