UPDATE: Victim, suspect identified in Akron shooting death

Akron police have identified a suspect in Wednesday night’s fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man on the city’s south side.

Phillip Pope, 24, is wanted on a charge of aggravated murder and has not yet been taken into custody.

He is accused of shooting and killing Will A. Lamon, 21, of Akron.

Lamon was inside a car stopped near Buckingham Street and Fairbanks Place when police say Pope opened fire at about 10 p.m. Lamon died later at Summa Akron City Hospital.

Police said the shooting may stem from a domestic dispute. Pope is dating Lamon’s former girlfriend. The woman is also the mother of the victim’s child, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Akron police at 330-375-2490. Anonymous tips may be left via the Internet at http://akronohio.gov/asp/tip.html.
