A woman was struck and killed by a hit-skip driver while crossing Darrow Road on Wednesday night in Akron.
Rebecca Altuz, 58, was crossing Darrow Road at about 9 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle and the driver left the scene, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office. Altuz, who lived on Darrow Road, was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Police arrested Jimmie D. Kirkman Jr., 67, of Newton Street, who admitted driving the Chevrolet Blazer involved in the crash, at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
Kirkman was charged with hit-skip. Police said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
