Woman held in hit-and-run death of Ohio teen

Associated Press

BELLEFONTAINE, OHIO: Authorities say a 49-year-old woman has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a western Ohio teenager who went missing before his body was found in a roadside ditch in October.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Cathy Humphries turned herself in at the Logan County jail Tuesday. She’s been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Detectives say Humphries was drunk and had marijuana in her system when she hit 15-year-old Austin Houser as he walked along a road Oct. 25 in the village of Rushsylvania, about 60 miles northwest of Columbus.

She reportedly told authorities she’d been involved in a crash but thought she’d hit a mailbox. Houser’s body wasn’t found until two days later.

Attorney information for Humphries was unavailable.
