PERRY TWP.: A Wooster man died after his van was hit head-on at 8:53 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Route 30.
Authorities suspect the other driver was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.
Christopher J. Zehe, 51, was taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton with serious injuries and died at 11:43 p.m., the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Zehe was driving a Dodge Grand Caravan eastbound on the highway when a black Kia Forte headed westbound went off the road, crossed the median and struck his van head-on. The vehicles continued off the highway and overturned.
Both drivers and a passenger in the car were ejected. None of them was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
The Kia Forte was driven by Jeffrey A. Mayforth, 21, of Mount Eaton. Sadie B. Bezon, 18, of Mount Eaton, was a passenger in the car.
Mayforth and Bezon received “non-incapacitating injuries,” the patrol said.
Authorities said Mayforth is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time. He submitted to a blood test while being treated at Mercy Medical Center in Canton.
The crash remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Massillon city prosecutor for possible charges, the patrol said.
