Wrong-way driver went 10 miles before Ohio crash

Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, OHIO: The State Highway Patrol says a wrong-way driver traveled against the traffic flow on a Southwest Ohio highway for about 10 miles before colliding with another car in a weekend crash that killed both drivers.

Both drivers were traveling alone and died at the scene early Sunday morning on Interstate 70 near Springfield.

The Springfield News-Sun reports at least seven people had called 911 to report a speeding car headed the wrong way down the highway, and some said they had narrowly avoided collisions.

The patrol is trying to determine why the 24-year-old Kettering man was traveling the wrong way. Investigators are waiting on a toxicology report to see if alcohol or drugs were factors.

The second driver was a 28-year-old man from Westerville in suburban Columbus.
