Summit jury convicts man of attempted rape of ex-wife

By Beacon Journal staff report

A Summit County jury today found an Akron man guilty of attempted rape and domestic violence.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which Jose Martinez, 37, of Chalker Street, entered his ex-wife's house without her knowledge and demanded sex, prosecutors said.

When she refused, Martinez beat her and threatened to kill her, prosecutors said.

Martinez will be sentenced by Summit County Common Pleas Judge James E. Murphy on Dec. 10.
