Buffalo Bills stuck -- really! -- in Cleveland

By Katie Byard
Beacon Journal online journalist

It's as if Cleveland were rubbing it in.

After the Buffalo Bills' loss to the Browns Sunday, the team spent the night in the area because of the snowstorm.

Then this morning, the team's plane got stuck in the mud at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Pat Smith, airport spokeswoman, said the pilot arrived at Cleveland Hopkins shortly after 8 a.m.

On the way to the IX Jet Center to pick the team up, the pilot turned wide to go from one taxiway to another and ''simply drove off'' the pavement, Smith said.

Only one of the two wheels of the nose gear left the pavement and landed in six inches of mud.

''He did not slide off,'' said Smith, adding that the airfield was in ''excellent condition.''

The pilot ''just misjudged the turning radius of the taxiway, which is marked by lights and signs,'' she said.

Smith said a television news reporter told her the team was planning to return to Buffalo via chartered buses.

The plane was towed from the mud shortly before noon.
