Fire damages vacant Massillon home

By Beacon Journal staff report

An early morning fire caused $45,000 in damages to a vacant home at 221 Wales Road N.E. in Massillon, according to fire officials.

The fire was reported at 4:19 a.m. today, according to assistant fire chief Stephen Collins.

He said that when fire fighters arrived, they found ''heavy fire in the basement and first floor extending to the second floor.''

After the flames were knocked down, fire fighters found that the fire had spread into the walls and attic.

One fireman suffered an eye injury but continued working after being treated, Collins said.

The fire prevention bureau was investigating to determine the cause of the fire, Collins said.
