The Canton City School District would close Souers Middle School as part of the facilities reduction plan presented to the Board of Education tonight.
The same plan calls for Compton and Summit elementary schools to cease operating as traditional elementaries.
Summit's pupils would be divided between Gibbs and Schreiber schools. Compton's pupils would go to Allen and Belden schools.
The Canton Arts Academy, currently a district-sponsored charter school, would become a magnet school at Summit.
Summit would also house gifted programs now at Harter elementary and Lehman middle schools.
Compton would become a site for programs now at Martin and Baxter schools and Choices school.
The district would close the Wells Administrative Center, Martin school and Baxter school. Future uses were not determined.
The White Annex at Timken High School would be leased to Stark State College of Technology for joint programming, practical nursing instruction and adult education programs.
The plan, if implemented, would save nearly $1.5 million a year.
The school board plans to accept public input on the plan Jan. 28.
A vote on the proposal is expected by Feb. 4.
