24-hour winter weather advisory in effect

The National Weather Service office in Cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 7 tonight to 7 p.m. Friday.

The advisory is for Summit, Medina and Portage counties as well as counties to the north and east of the Akron area.

The weather service is forecasting snow along with some sleet and possible freezing rain will spread over the area tonight and Friday. Snow will develop from Southwest to Northeast tonight and then may mix with sleet or freezing rain Friday. Two to four inches of snow may accumulate tonight with another one to three inches possible on Friday along with sleet and freezing rain. Icing is expected to total less than a quarter inch, the weather service said.

Precipitation should become lighter Friday afternoon but some additional light snow is likely Friday night.

A winter weather advisory is normally issued for a variety of winter conditions such as light snow, blowing snow, sleet and freezing rain. An advisory implies that severe winter weather is not anticipated.
