Poll: Obama gaining on Clinton in Ohio

By Dennis J. Willard Beacon Journal Columbus bureau

Barack Obama has winnowed the lead by Hillary Clinton to about 4 points in Ohio, a new Quinnipiac University has found on the eve of primary.

Obama trailed Clinton by 11 points a week ago, but a blaze of advertising and public appearances combined with a more focused electorate has led to a significant tightening in the race.

Clinton still has strong leads among white women, older voters and blue collar workers while Obama is backed by African-Americans, younger voters and college-educated men.

But in the past week, Clinton has cut into Obama's lead among college-educated while he has made strides toward capturing more of the blue collar vote, possibly due to his decision to attack Clinton on the North American Free Trade Agreement.
