Who says politics isn't a rough business?
Two supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, holding campaign signs aloft, were attacked while standing near the intersection of Summit and East Market streets about 5:30 Monday evening.
Police are accusing William R. Bonner, 26, of walking up to the pair, grabbing the signs and striking one of the campaigners, according to Lt. Rick Edwards, Akron police spokesman.
Edwards said Bonner allegedly swung the signs at the pair and then punched one of the Clinton supporters, a 61-year-old man, in the back of the head.
Officers arrested and handcuffed Bonner and placed him in the back of a police cruiser.
While in the cruiser, police said, Bonner attempted to kick out the car's windows.
Edwards said pepper spray was used to restrain Bonner.
Bonner was charged with two counts of assault, carrying a concealed weapon (a knife), molestation of police property, disorderly conduct and intoxication.
He was booked into he Summit County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned 8 a.m. Wednesday.
