The videotaped deposition of Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner in a case filed by the Summit County Republican Party has been made public.
Brunner, a Democrat, fought to have the videotape sealed but her request was denied by the Ohio Supreme Court. She also unsuccessfully asked that she not be deposed and that the questions she had to answer be limited in scope.
The party is challenging Brunner's decision to appoint Akron attorney Don Varian to the Summit County elections board, rather than former Hudson Council President Brian Daley. Daley was the party's recommended replacement for county party chairman Alex Arshinkoff, whom Brunner decided not to reappoint to the elections board, saying he wasn't ''fit'' to serve.
Brunner's deposition, taken last week, lasted more than five hours and included heated exchanged between the attorneys. A written transcript of her testimony was filed Friday, along with other evidence in the case, but the video wasn't released until today.
