By Beacon Journal staff report

Akron police said today they have nabbed a man they say was the robber who talked on a cell phone while robbing two area banks.

The FirstMerit banks were robbed within a week of each other.

Police said Roger Christian, 40, of Merriman Road in West Akron, robbed the FirstMerit at 727 N. Main St. on Monday and the FirstMerit at 840 Brittain Road on March 12.

Police said earlier that in each case the suspect entered the bank talking on a cell phone, walked up to a teller and demanded money. No weapon was displayed.

Police said the man may have been trying to hide his face with the phone.

Christian was charged with robbery.

He is on parole for robbery in Colorado.
