Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer Realty announced today that it has acquired Tom Campensa Realty Co. of Akron. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Campensa said the decision will allow him to return to his passion for sales in the industry.
Campensa and Hanna officials said discussions on the sale had been under way for about three years.
Campensa said his company has had home sales totaling about $6 million to $8 million annually, primarily in West Akron. Campensa's office employs four people.
The Hanna companies, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia operations, record more than $1 billion in sales annually, officials said.
Hanna calls itself the fifth-largest real estate company in the United States, having been in operation since 1957. It is based in Pittsburgh.
Hanna has five Summit County offices. The number of employees was not available.
The acquisition is the 14th by Hanna in the state of Ohio. The last major deal was Hanna's acquisition of Smythe Cramer in 2003.
Campensa served in 2007 as president of the Akron Area Board of Realtors. He has worked in real estate since 1971 and had his own company since 1999.
