COLUMBUS: A state lawmaker from northeast Ohio says he wants to ease restrictions on out-of-state wine shipments.
Ohio currently prohibits out-of-state wineries that produce more than 150,000 gallons a year from shipping directly to Ohio consumers.
State Rep. Matthew Dolan says he supports raising the cap to 250,000 gallons.
But a spokesman for the Napa Valley trade group Wine Institute says it would make little difference. Ohio would still ban shipments from 80 percent of the domestic wine industry.
The law was added as an amendment to the state budget last year and backed by a lobbying effort from Ohio wineries.
Bob Tenenbaum is a spokesman for the Wholesale Beer and Wine Association. He says the group doesn't support Dolan's efforts but won't actively fight the move.
